School Bus Safety

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… for parents! Back too school.

It’s important that drivers remember that when a school bus has its flashing lights on, you must come to a stop. Once the lights have stopped flashing, you can proceed.

Here are some safety tips to share with children to ensure safe travel.

Getting to and on the school bus:
1. Get to the bus stop at least five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. Kids should never run after a school bus to try to catch it. If you miss the bus, kids should just head back home to get a ride.
2. Kids should always stay on the sidewalk, well back from the road and should wait there until the bus has come to a full stop and the bus doors are opened.
3. If the bus stop is across the street, remind kids to look to the left, then to the right, and to the left once more before crossing the street – just like drivers!
4. Always use the handrail when getting on or off the bus.
