Is London Safe - Security ONE

Is London Ontario safe?

London is a Canadian city located in southwestern Ontario, midway between Windsor and Toronto. With a greater population of approximately 520,000, London is an important economic hub, home to the University of Western Ontario, along with multiple commercial head offices. With a growing population and thriving economy, London is Canada’s 11th highest populated city. But regarding crime, is London Ontario a safe city?

As of 2020, London is the 100th most dangerous city in Canada. London ranks safer than major cities like Toronto, Calgary, St. John’s Sudbury, Halifax, and Windsor. Over the past five years, London’s violent crime rate has increased. Assaults, firearms offenses, and impaired driving have all risen, yet are below the Canadian national average.

Alarmingly, sexual assaults, robberies, breaking & entering, and fraud all have risen annually and are above the Canadian national average.

The areas of London Ontario with the most crime are Soho, Chelsea Heights, Kipps Lane, Ealing, Dundas Street, and Carling. Downtown London is also prone to crime, which is typical of most downtown areas of larger-sized cities.

While London does have its share of crime, it’s important to note that the city is still quite safe. Londoners can move around the city with minimal concern about safety if they act with common sense. By avoiding high-risk situations and being aware of your surroundings, you will dramatically reduce your chances of being a victim of crime.

Regarding protecting your London-based home or business, it is important to use all available tools to best safeguard yourself. A monitored alarm system is a key tool for protection, as it provides 24/7 peace of mind by deterring and detecting burglars. As proof of a monitored security system’s effectiveness,  insurance providers give a discount in premiums to locations protected with them as the provider ends up paying out fewer claims.

London Ontario is a safe city even though it does have a certain level of crime. By taking proper safeguards, all Londoners can live and work safely with minimal security concerns.
